Balancing Act

This series of small drawings was started while away on holiday this summer in response to the landscapes, shapes, forms, colours and textures around me at the time. They were created with graphite pencils, watercolours, inks and fine black liner and speak about the materiality of the world but also act as a visual analogy for the perpetual juggling or balancing acts we all perform in our daily lives with the constant demands on our time and energy in an ever-increasingly busy and complex world. They are a reminder to ourselves that it’s not always possible to do/see everyone and everything without this delicate balance being upended. I think of these drawings as a reminder to focus on what is essential.
